Vets experience burnout, depression, and high levels of stress in disproportionately high numbers. They desperately need support from peers and other resources to combat the negative feelings and stay as healthy as possible. Visit our Mental Wellness page for more info.
Extremely thin profit margins and astronomically high student loan debt often mean that veterinarians struggle with financial management. We connect these vets to resources that can get them back on track and in a position to better manage their income and debt.
Veterinary skills and know-how are in high demand even outside the operating room. The Maggie T Foundation can help vets leverage those skills to build relationships, boost income, and grow competence.
Outside the academic and corporate worlds, good mentors may be hard to find. We offer access to enthusiastic, dedicated mentors and mentees to help new and inexperienced vets improve and keep established vets "fresh."
The Maggie T Foundation is committed to the health and welfare of all animals, and equally committed to the humans who provide their care. Our passion is to elevate the field of veterinary medicine, both by improving the quality of animal care in (underserved) communities as well as providing holistic support to those who have chosen to practice in the field. We are unique in our approach in that we do not just focus on teaching vets to be skilled practitioners. The Maggie T Foundation believes firmly that true success involves professional development, personal pursuits that bring joy and balance to life, mental wellness, and philanthropic endeavors. We provide traditional education, experiential learning, information to promote fiscal responsibility, and programs to promote mental wellness.
From Maggie T. Founder Dr. Will Taylor:
"Momma believed in education not only the didactic kind but also experiential education. We visited , museums, galleries, libraries, festivals, and historic locations when I was a kid. She gave me as much time as I needed to explore and stimulate my imagination. It was important to her that I was exposed to things outside of my neighborhood on the south side of Chicago.
I also watched her share her resources with those in need. Be it financial, materials like clothing, housing, meals etc. I would often find myself right along side of her helping in some way.
I guess I was introduced to education, service and philanthropy early. I haven’t stopped since."
